Outlaws Supply Music for Will Ryder’s Love, Sex & Music
(Hollywood, CA) Outlaws aren’t normally associated with music, but when director Will Ryder was desperately seeking the perfect song for the production of his feature movie Love, Sex & Music, he ventured into a dusty bar in Tujunga, California and ran smack dab into a group of outlaws. Honest Family Outlaws that is, and they were performing country trap songs live on stage when Ryder knew he had to get them involved in the soundtrack of his Adam & Eve feature movie.
“They were on stage, absolutely killing it when they launched into a great country song they wrote called ‘On the Radio’ and it clicked immediately that it was the perfect song for my movie which is all about the country music business in Nashville,” Ryder remarked.
What resulted was a two in the morning meeting as the band slammed shots of whisky letting Ryder know their song was not available.
“We had just cut a deal for that song so we couldn’t license it, but Will was relentless and convinced us to go into the recording studio and create some other songs for his movie,” stated Adam E. the band’s guitar player.
These days, original music created specifically for an adult movie is rarely considered due to the extreme cost and the easy availability of compositions on music licensing services but spending the extra cash for original music was worth it to Ryder. His next step was to convince Adam & Eve.
“Getting Adam & Eve Pictures to buy into my vision posed certain questions but we were able to agree that this script was unique, the characters authentic and we had to go the extra mile to make this movie our most dramatic ever,” Ryder confessed. “Very few companies would agree to this.”
The new compositions Right into Your Arms and Born Country were completed in three recording sessions and finally the actual movie production could be scheduled.
“We knew we had the missing element to enhance the script and bring the characters and story to life,” co-producer Scott David offered.
Adam & Eve Pictures’ head of production Rachel V agreed, “We trust Will’s vision and will greenlight all of his musical decisions in the future because Love, Sex & Music is very entertaining and the music is key.”
The story is based on fact pulled from Ryder’s own experience in the music business two decades earlier.
When aspiring black singer/songwriter Dixie (September Reign) moves to Nashville, she discovers that Music Row is not the welcoming home she expected, but rather a den of lies, deceit, court cases and corporate greed. Finding herself smack dab in the middle of a Nashville scandal after writing the hottest song of the year, Dixie is at odds with famous singing superstar Missy Free (Vanna Bardot) who wants to record her song. The music label executives want to steal it as Dixie is driven to the breaking point.

Joining September Reign and Vanna Bardot are Whitney Wright, Nina Elle, Misty Stone, Madison Summers, Samantha Lexi, Zerella Skies, Cecilia Taylor and April Love with the guys being Jay Romero, Dorian Del Isla, Joshua Lewis, Rusty Nails, James Bartholet and featuring Frank Bukkwyd as the grizzled country music veteran.

Review – Love, Sex & Music – Adam & Eve Pictures
Love, Sex & Music – Adam & Eve Pictures – Director – Will Ryder – Cast – September Reign, Nina Elle, Vanna Bardot, Whitney Wright, Misty Stone, Madison Sommers, Jay Romero, Joshua Lewis, Dorian Del Isla, Rusty Nails, James Bartholet and Frank Bukkwyd.
**** 4.5 stars
In his continuing series of Love, Sex and ______, director Will Ryder has gone from comedy to drama with this very solid award nom worthy effort about the shady dealings in the music business in Nashville, especially if you were black. Yes, Charley Pride broke that barrier and was a big star but many in Nashville turned away from him as well. This is a well written, superbly acted story that is extremely real and believable. I know, because I was part of the country music scene back in the 60’s and 70’s and again in the 90’s as a dee jay, talent agent and concert promoter and saw a lot of it. Of course, along with all the drama and the engrossing storyline that Ryder has created, there is plenty of eye popping sex going on that will keep your libido going strong.
September Reign, in an award nom performance, plays Dixie Gatlin an aspiring country music singer/songwriter looking to make it big in Music City. She runs into some backlash, but comes in contact with Nash Music run by Nina Elle, who is not exactly the nicest or above board person she appears to be. But she smells success with Dixie and takes her and her song by using a lot of deception, lies and more just to get the song for her prize singer Missy Free, played with just the right amount of bitchiness by Vanna Bardot. Dixie is warned about all the back stabbing by Whitney Wright, but now that she’s in so deep, she doesn’t know how to get out of it and move with her dreams. She confides in her sister Tina, back home recovering from cancer. Tina gives her all the advice she can and to not give up. Tina is played by Misty Stone in a very strong, dramatic non sex role. In the meantime, Dixie is really torn about her budding career and everything that is going on behind her back. Missy has a confrontation with Nina about the song and then has a heated go around with Dixie also further making things tougher for aspiring newcomer.
Of course, in between all these dramatic moments there is always time for some steamy sex play. This includes a very hot solo by September herself as well as a couple of boy/girl interludes that break from the story to get your juices flowing. Then Dixie meets old time country star Buck Bennett, played by adult film veteran Frank Bukkwyd in another award nom performance. Having been a country star he knows how the game is played and doesn’t like what is happening to Dixie. So he takes her under his wing to try and steer her in the right direction and get what rightfully belongs to her, meaning her music. Nina and her group don’t seem worried at all as they consider Buck an old washed up star of the past. But Dixe and Buck form an immediate bond and Dixie calls her sister Tina to tell her the latest and her sister says she will help anyway she can. With Buck guiding her she feels that soon everything will work out.
There is a big party thrown by Nash Music and the owner of the company, Pierre Le Fluer (Dorian Del Isla) shows up to help celebrate the big hit song that was actually stolen from Dixie. Of course, Missy has to show her appreciation for it and goes off with the owner for some steamy sex. But the celebration continues and will be short lived as the company is hauled into court and all hell breaks loose. The case is presided over by Judge James Bartholet and seems to be going against Dixie and her claims until the unexpected happens. Dixie’s sister Tina is a surprise show up in the court with recorded proof of the wrongdoing that Nash Music did to her sister. Now the judge has no other course than to rule in Dixie’s favor and is well that ends well. Now with Buck by her side as a mentor she can move on with her career.
Avery well written story from Will Ryder that is very realistic. The performances by the key players are excellent and award nom worthy adding to the believability of this production. The music in the film is well performed by a country band called the Honest Family Outlaws and they are a group you will hear more from in the future. Ryder’s direction and the cinematography are exceptionally well done and also award nom worthy. I have known Will a long time and while he has had many big hit films, awards and accolades, this may be among the best he has ever done. All I can add here is…….do not miss it!

The Classic Rock and Roll Anthems
Ever since rock and roll came on the scene in the mid 50’s there have always been those certain songs that have become anthems for the music. Every decade has had those anthems where you raise your fist in the air and go, “Yeah!!” Here is a look at some of those great anthems that have spurred on the history of rock and roll music.
1954 – “Rock Around The Clock,” Bill Haley & His Comets – This was the breakthrough for the teens of that time and their own way of life. It was the perfect song to capture just what the music meant to the youth of that time.
1968 – “Born to Be Wild,” Steppenwolf – This was popular with the biker community because it was in the film “Easy Rider”. But more than that with the youth it was their anthem of rebellion and freedom.
1971 – “American Pie”, Don McLean – If there was ever a song the personified Americana and the meaning of rock and roll, this was it. The ‘day the music died” is one of the most iconic anthems to be written and performed.
1973 – “We’re An American Band”, Grand Funk Railroad – While song itself is basically a tribute to the band, the tours, the good and bad, the fans, it is still one of those songs you cannot forget and always hear on a classic rock station.
1974 – “Sweet Home Alabama”. Lynard Skynard – If ever there was a song that personified like below the Mason-Dixon line, America, rock and roll and life, this is it. No matter what your music taste this song is one you don’t forget.
1975 – “Born to Run”, Bruce Springsteen – This classic has been around for forty five years and still resonates with music lovers of all ages. It was the right song at the right time both for Springsteen and music lovers of rock and roll.
1977 -“We Will Rock You”/”We Are the Champions”, Queen – These two are inseparable and might be the most revered and perfect examples of a rock and roll anthem you could ask for. It doesn’t get much better than this.
1979 – “Old Time Rock and Roll,” Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band – This is pure celebration of rock and roll and what it meant to everyone. The fact that it was in the film Ricky Business helped, but this anthem stands on its own.
1980 – “Another One Bites the Dust,” Queen – Freddie and the boys gave music another classic anthem with this one. It has been used for many different sports related events and with its funkadelic appeal it is a true anthem.
1984 – “Born in the U.S.A.,” Bruce Springsteen – You cannot have a list of classic rock anthems without including this one. It speaks of the Viet Nam era, and it is a rousing and powerful anthem in a subtle protesting way.

There you have ten of them with my comments. There are many more to look over. You will find the complete list of the 25 anthems at: https://www.msn.com/en-us/entertainment/news/the-25-best-rock-n-roll-anthems/ss-BB184cAI?li=BBnbfcL&ocid=U506DHP#image=23 Be sure to check it all out.

Porn Classics Revisited – “Suzie Superstar – Cal Vista – 1983
This week we travel back in time thirty nine years to 1983. What kind of year was it and how much do you remember? The 80’s were quite a decade that would go a long way in shaping the future of the world we live in today.
As always we’ll begin with the cost of living. The average yearly income was $22,000 while the cost of a new 3 bedroom home averaged $89,000. You could buy a Ford Mustang for $6,600, but a gallon of gas had now climbed up to a ridiculous $1.24. As for other prices, a dozen eggs were 86 cents and a gallon of milk $1.75. You could buy a Sony Walkman for $229 and an RCA VCR player for $399, while an Atari 5200 game was $200. A pair of men’s leather shoes was less than $40. In news headlines in the U.S. and elsewhere in 1983……Ronald Reagan was President……..Unemployment in the U.S. rises to 12 million, the highest since 1941……..The UK is the first country to make automobile seat belts mandatory………. Terrorists bomb the US Embassy in Beirut killing 239 Marines and Sailors………The Supreme Court reaffirms its 1973 (Roe Vs Wade) right to abortion………President Reagan orders the invasion of Grenada……. Hurricane Alicia hits the Texas coast, killing 22, while a 5.2 earthquake hits Central New York………..The first mobile phones are introduced by Motorola and Microsoft Word makes its debut…………Peoples Express is a new “no frills” airline to compete with the big name airlines………The Cabbage Patch doll craze gets bigger………..Sally Ride becomes the first woman astronaut as part of the crew on the Space Shuttle Challenger.
In entertainment some of the year’s top movies included Tootsie, Flashdance, Trading Places, Superman III and National Lampoon’s Vacation. Pop music’s hit makers included The Police, Black Sabbath, Johnny, Cash, David Bowie and Pink Floyd. When it came to TV, Simon & Simon, Dynasty, Cagney and Lacy, Dallas and The Love Boat were among the big hit shows. Also the final episode of M*A*S*H airs with 125 million viewers tuned in. Among the celebrities we lost in 1983 were famed football coach Bear Bryant, TV host/entertainer Arthur Godfrey, singer Karen Carpenter, actress Gloria Swanson, actor David Niven and former heavyweight boxing champ Jack Dempsey.
In the world of porn, the switch from east coast to west coast continued to expand.. New technological advances and the coming of video will make porn a completely different industry. 1983 also brought out some top notch porn films like the one we take a look back at today, “Suzi Superstar”.
“Suzie Superstar” – Cal Vista – Director – Robert McCallum – Cast – Mai Lin, Sharon Mitchell, Joey Silvera, Ron Jeremy, John Leslie, Tara Aire, Shauna Grant, Jon Martin, Laurie Smith, Aaron Stuart, Laura Lazare, Ken Scudder, Gail Sterling, Ross Roberts
Over the years McCallum gave porn fans some very memorable films that had a plot, story, good acting, plenty of sex and solid production values. With this release McCallum went in a little different direction with a musical adaptation that is campy, corny, but really good and a true classic. It also shows off, to great advantage, the talents of the late Shauna Grant who left this world way too early.
The story revolves around Suzi (Shauna Grant) and her band being basically treated like crap by their agent played to perfection with both charm and as a total a-hole by John Leslie. They want to get away from him and find their way to stardom without him. It turns out that Leslie is having an affair with a mob boss’s daughter. With this knowledge Suzi and her band mates hatch a plan to get rid of Leslie in more ways than one. There are a lot of twists and turns in this well written story to keep your interest level high along with seven sex scenes to spice up the proceedings. The first sex scene has Ron Jeremy as a chauffeur taking on two chicks in the car as payment for letting them get backstage at a Suzi concert. In this film the sex scenes all play a part in the plot of this story, not just add ons because it is a porn flick. McCallum makes sure these steamy scenes play into the story and what happens with Leslie, Suzi and the rest of the characters.
Overall, the acting is very strong and believable even in this campy style. The music is not bad, all things considered, although Sharon Mitchell as a country singer? The production values are above average and the views from the camera’s eye gives you some great visuals, colors, shadings and feel for the story as it moves along. The sex scenes offer up a decent variety with some very explosive moments. As for the acting, Ms. Grant had so much potential it is a shame her personal life led to her ending her young life that still had so much to give. Leslie, Joey Silvera and Ron Jeremy have always been among the best male actors in porn and made their characters very real, believable and truly come to life. The rest of the cast added a lot with some solid acting chops and bring both humor and drama to the story in just the right doses.
The DVD has some good extras added and the entire film holds up well after all these years. I absolutely recommend checking out a forgotten classic from 1983, “Suzi Superstar”.

Art’s World – My Top 10 Film Biographies in Sports and Entertainment
As you all know by now I am a big time sports junkie, have been in the entertainment industry in radio, concerts, management, etc. and enjoy good biographical films. With that in mind I compiled a list of my favorites in one list of ten, five in entertainment, five in sports along with some comments. I hope you enjoy looking over this list and the comments I have added. They are listed in no particular order, so here we go!
Pride of the Yankees – Lou Gehrig – Okay, it was a bit on the corny side, but then Gehrig was somewhat of a quiet “aw shucks” kind of guy and Gary Cooper nailed the role perfectly in every way. For me, as one who has disliked the Yankees since my youth, I still think this 1942 black and white film is one of the best of the sports and baseball bios that has been done. It was also a film the introduced reverse cinematography as Gehrig was a lefty and Cooper was right handed, but thanks to this new technology it came off flawless. Yankee fan or not this is an excellent film to view.
Ray – Ray Charles – Jamie Foxx’s uncanny, Oscar-winning incarnation of the late Ray Charles dominates this chronicle of pioneer’s Fifties and Sixties heyday. He gets everything right from the blind pianist’s look and shuffling gait to his vocal intonations. The movie is filled with terrific acting from Kerry Washington as Charles’ wife, Bea, and Regina King’s as one of Charles’ mistresses and backup singers, Margie Hendricks of the Raelettes. When it comes to music personalities this film was one of the best to be put together whether you were a fan of Charles or not.
ELVIS TCB – Elvis Presley – This Baz Luhrmann production on the life of Elvis is an incredible journey. Told mainly from the view of his manager Colonel Tom Parker played by Tom Hanks, we see how the rise of Presley took place and all the good and bad that went along with it. The music is the centerpiece but also are the dramatics that played a big part in Elvis’ life. It is mesmerizing, eye opening, spiritual, tearful and unforgettable. Austin Butler in the role of Elvis is a no brainer Oscar worthy performance as he literally brings Elvis back to life throughout the film, and yes Butler did the singing. The entire cast was tremendous, the music , settings, costumes and cinematography were incredible. This is a “must see” film that should have five or more nominations come Oscar time.
42 – Jackie Robinson – This film about Jackie Robinson and his breaking the color barrier had three things going for it that made it a hit. Number one was the acting by the late Chadwick Boseman, spot on in every way. Second, Harrison Ford as Branch Rickey was uncanny in an ignored Oscar worthy role. Third, Jackie’s widow Rachel had final say on the script so that 98% of that film was totally accurate in every way. The baseball sequences and super imposed shots of Ebbetts Field and the old parks were incredible adding even more believability to the entire timeline.
Glenn Miller Story – Glenn Miller – Miller was the greatest band leader of the big band era and his death during WW II was felt worldwide. Jimmy Stewart stars as Miller and he is absolutely on the mark in his portrayal. The music alone makes this film great, but so is the story not only of the band and its rise to fame, but the love story between Glenn and Helen that was magical from the start. One extra note. Harry Morgan plays Miller’s piano playing best friend Chummy McGregor in this 1946 film and would become better known years later as Col. Potter on M*A*S*H.
The Aviator – Howard Hughes – As the young Howard Hughes during his Hollywood years, before the madness set in, Leonardo DiCaprio is truly outstanding. Hughes was blessed with a brilliant mind and he was fascinated with movies and aviation blending them together with 1930 film “Hell’s Angels” which became a classic. It is an outstanding performance that beautifully explores a Hughes troubled mind. The genuine fear in his eyes when he has one of his spells is truly frightening to watch take place in this breathtaking performance. The film would go on to be nominated for 11 Oscars and win 5 along with 6 Golden Globe noms, winning 4. A great supporting cast amplifies just what a mad genius Hughes was before he went totally off the deep end.
Coal Miner’s Daughter – Loretta Lynn – Sissy Spacek received a well-deserved Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of country queen Loretta Lynn in this straightforward approach to the singer’s story, from her impoverished beginnings in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky to her eventual climb to country super stardom. Completely believable whether portraying Lynn as a love-struck teen, harried working mother or the “Queen of Country Music,” Spacek was very impressive with her singing. Everyone from Tommy Lee Jones to Levon Helm and Beverly D’Angelo (as Patsy Cline) turn in strong performances. Having worked with Loretta back in my country music days I can attest to honesty of this great film.
Miracle – US Hockey 1980 – How can you leave off a film that portrays one of the biggest upsets not only in Olympic history, but in the history of sports? The answer is, you can’t. This film about the fantastic USA Hockey team knocking off the Russian pros for the Olympic gold medal came at the right time in our country. The film was extremely well put together with some excellent hockey action scenes taken from the actual Olympics. But the standout was Kurt Russell as USA coach Herb Brooks. His portrayal of the hard nosed coach was totally believable and took this film over the top.
Moneyball – Billy Beane – This was the film that opened the door to the world of sabermetrics. Brad Pitt stars as Oakland Athletics’ general manager Billy Beane, who upended decades of eyeball-test baseball scouting with his advanced statistical measurement of an individual player’s value to the team. It has a real, true story line, some very good on field sequences, but it is the mind of Beane that is the focus on this exceptional film. It was also a method that has since been adapted, in some form, by every ML team. Jonah Hill was exceptional as assistant GM Peter Brand. The film also was nominated for six Oscars and four Golden Globes
Brian’s Song – Brian Piccolo – This was a TV movie, but belongs on any list. While the story is based on sports it is much, much more than that and the sports part pretty much takes a back seat. Though Gayle Sayers and Brian Piccolo were fierce competitors for the same running back position on the Chicago Bears, the two men became the best of friends. That bond only grew stronger when Piccolo was diagnosed with cancer. Billy Dee Williams and James Caan are perfectly cast as Sayers and Piccolo in this classic TV movie. The realism that both actors show in some of the more dramatic hospital scenes is mind boggling. I am sure that the stock for Kleenex went way up after this aired.
There you have my personal picks for the best film bios of sports and entertainment figures in this edition of “Art’s World”. I could have easily made this list twenty, so maybe we’ll do another ten at some point. How many of these were your favorites, how many have you actually seen? I really would love your feedback and comments, so please let us hear from you.
