Russia Tightens Internet Censorship Through Fines for ‘Banned Content’

A year after Vladimir Putin announced sweeping measures to regulate content on the internet, a Russian court issued today a fine of nearly $100 million against Google for “systematic failure to remove banned content,” which encompasses both political and social messaging that the Moscow government does not approve of, and almost all adult material online.
