420 Expo to Host Free Expungement Clinics September 29–October 1

NJ’s Premier BYOC (Cannabis) Consumer Event Making Major Strides Towards Social Justice

Edison, NJ, September 8, 2023 – As New Jersey’s first and largest BYOC (Bring Your Own Cannabis) consumer convention, 420 Expo was founded as a stigma-free celebration of the legal cannabis lifestyle. This year, the event is taking its commitment to social justice for the cannabis community to the next level by presenting free Expungement Clinics for attendees.

Open to members of the public aged 21 and over, 420 Expo will take place September 29 through October 1 at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Edison, NJ. Tickets and details about the event, which will be guest hosted by the legendary Cheech Marin and sponsored by Wakit Grinders (www.wakitgrinders.com), are available at 420Expo.com.

The Expungement Clinics at 420 Expo will be conducted by legal experts such as Andrew Cooper, Esq., LL.M. – Chair, Cannabis & Psychedelics Practice Group at Falcon Rappaport & Berkman LLP. Cooper shares how important this free information is for supporting social justice: “People with cannabis convictions often find it impossible to find jobs, housing, or college loans. They often lose their right to vote and the ability to receive public assistance. Many employers won’t hire anyone with a drug conviction or have policies requiring immediate termination if a past drug arrest is discovered – with or without a conviction. The issue is even more profound when you consider that a significant majority of those arrested for cannabis have been simple possession charges.”

Cooper adds a critical insight, “The so-called war on drugs has been particularly hard on minority and low-income communities, and although studies show white, brown, and black people use cannabis equally, black and brown people were nearly four times as likely to be arrested for cannabis violations. Despite laws designed to assist these communities, the individuals affected most are also least able to benefit due to a lack of access to information and support. The Expungement Clinics at 420 Expo are intended to provide the kind of meaningful access to information otherwise sorely lacking in society.”

Additional attorneys from the region will also be taking part in the clinics as well as offering legal advice during the event, including Michael Hoffman, John Williams, Tara Hopper and others who are donating their time to this effort.

“We are thrilled to bring this type of necessary social support to our three-day cannabis celebration,” said Dan Davis, co-founder of 420 Expo. “In addition to bringing together live entertainment, celebrity appearances, cool vendors, educational seminars, and a huge BYOC outdoor smoking section with food trucks, our Expungement Clinics will provide access to legitimate support that can help people take advantage of their legal rights and make huge steps in achieving their social justice.”

Guest host Cheech Marin, who himself has his own cannabis line Cheech’s Stash, has long been pushing for social equity for cannabis users. “Now that recreational cannabis is finally legal in many states and making other strides toward acceptance, it’s so important to fight against social injustices. The existence of 420 Expo is a huge step in the right direction. I can’t wait to be there to celebrate with fellow cannabis enthusiasts.”

In addition to free Expungement Clinics, 420 Expo’s three-day BYOC canna-fest will include:

  • VIP Meet & Greets with the legendary Cheech Marin, Friday and Saturday
  • Guest appearances by other cannabis-related celebrities, including David Faustino (“Married with Children”), Jason Gann (“Wilfred”), Jason London (Dazed and Confused), Jeremy London (Mallrats, “7th Heaven”), Nicholas Turturro (“NYPD Blue,” The Longest Yard, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry), Rachel True (Half Baked, The Craft), Shawna Waldron (Little Giants, The American President, “Ladies Man”), Keith Coogan (Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead, Toy Soldiers, Adventures in Babysitting), professional wrestling legends The Sandman and Blue Meanie, activist and champion racecar driver, Randy Lanier, and Troma Films characters “The Toxic Avenger” and “Sgt. Kabukiman,” among others
  • 420 Expo’s Entertainment Stage featuring live performances, interactive events, and more – plus live music and DJs throughout the event
  • Over 100 vendors from the cannabis world and beyond (no on-site THC sales)
  • 20+ seminars and panels appealing to both casual and experienced cannabis enthusiasts
  • Outdoor BYOC smoking section with plenty of food trucks, music, and games
  • Glass blowing, axe throwing, iconic cars from movies, product demonstrations, gaming areas, and more
  • Rolling Contest and other games and competitions
  • Extreme people watching!

“Last year’s inaugural 420 Expo brought together 17,000 cannabis fans, and this year we expect the party to draw almost 20,000 people,” said J. Handy, co-founder of 420 Expo. “That gives us a huge opportunity to actively support social just initiatives through our free Engagement Clinics – all while celebrating the huge strides made in cannabis legalization.”

420 Expo will be open to the public:

  • Friday, September 29, 5pm – 11pm (ribbon cutting by Cheech Marin)
  • Saturday, September 30, 12pm – 9pm
  • Sunday, October 1, 12pm – 6pm

To learn more about the performance lineup and to buy advance tickets to this 21+ event, visit 420Expo.com. (THC products will not be sold at 420 Expo, however attendees may bring the legal limit for personal use specified by the state of NJ.)

SCOTUS Upholds Section 230

The Supreme Court of the United States has ruled that tech companies did not contribute to crimes by allowing free speech in an unanimous decision written by Justice Clarence Thomas.

Section 230

According to Wikipedia, “Section 230 is a section of Title 47 of the United States Code that was enacted as part of the Communications Decency Act of 1996, which is Title V of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, and generally provides immunity for online computer services with respect to third-party content generated by its users.”

As XBIZ reported, the SCOTUS Justices heard arguments in Gonzalez v. Google and Twitter v. Taamneh in February, when lawyers for the plaintiffs and platforms addressed online speech, content moderation and Section 230 protections.
www.xbiz.com/news/273790/supreme-court-upholds-section-230-for-social-media-platforms

Platforms, like Adult Industry News (AINews.xxx) for example, publish articles from third-parties who send us articles, press releases, and Letters to the Editor. The SCOTUS decision says we can’t be sued in cases similar to the lawsuits filed against Twitter and Google.

CNN reports, “In one of the two cases, Twitter v. Taamneh, the Supreme Court ruled Twitter will not have to face accusations it aided and abetted terrorism when it hosted tweets created by the terror group ISIS.

“The court also dismissed Gonzalez v. Google, another closely watched case about social media content moderation – sidestepping an invitation to narrow a key federal liability shield for websites, known as Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.”
www.cnn.com/2023/05/18/politics/supreme-court-twitter-google-social-media/index.html

“We’re a court. We really don’t know about these things,” Justice Elena Kagan said. “You know, these are not like the nine greatest experts on the internet.”

Justice Brett Kavanaugh suggested, “Isn’t it better … to put the burden on Congress to change that, and they can consider the implications and make these predictive judgments?”
www.dailywire.com/news/scotus-hears-major-case-against-google-youtube-about-american-murdered-by-isis

It appears the SCOTUS are saying they *may be experts in Constitutional Law, but not that tech savvy, and Congress needs to pass laws to regulate the Internet that are Constitutional. [*Is it “may be” or “maybe”?]

The Gonzalez v. Google suit was filed by the family of Nohemi Gonzalez who was killed in the 2015 terrorist attack in Paris. In Twitter v. Taamneh, Twitter was sued by Nawras Alassaf’s family who was killed in a 2017 ISIS attack in Istanbul.

I need to comment that world-wide there are organizations and governments – including our own – who are continually chipping away at our Constitutional rights. They will propose laws, mandates, and rules on us that actually infringe on the rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution. We all need to be better versed in our form of Government, which is the most liberal with freedoms for it’s citizens that there is world-wide. I’ve made my living on the Internet in behalf of the Adult Industry since 1998. I’m seeing more rats leaving the ship than ever before, meaning not many are vocal about standing up for the rights we all value!

There’s a fine line between allowing legal speech and government collusion to censor citizens for partisan political purposes. Here at Adult Industry News (AINews.xxx) we screen articles for illegal content and are strict with our graphics. We intend to continue to offer legal Industry press releases, original content, and non-pornographic graphics to our readers, like it or not.

Attorney Corey D. Silverstein Talks Emerging Issues Post-Roe v. Wade

#myadultattorney spoke to The Daily Beast about performers’ shifting sentiments and emerging legal issues in light of Roe v. Wade’s recent overturn.

Cyberspace (August 9, 2022) — Corey D. Silverstein, the driving force behind MyAdultAttorney.com and Adult.Law, recently spoke to Aurora Snow and The Daily Beast about performers’ shifting sentiments and emerging legal issues in light of the recent overturn of Roe v. Wade.

Read “The Supreme Court May Have Just Killed Porn’s ‘Creampie'” in The Daily Beast right here: thedailybeast.com/the-supreme-court-may-have-just-killed-porns-creampie

According to Silverstein, performers are rethinking the scenes they may want to book in light of safety issues and what could happen in the (rare) instance of conception occurring during work-related sex performance.

“This has always been a major area that all performers should be considering, and while Dobbs v. Jackson does not make abortion outright illegal, each individual state is now left to govern the issue. Depending on where a performer is located, an abortion may be far more difficult to obtain,” said Silverstein. “It is a necessity for performers to become more familiar with abortion laws in all states that they interact with.”

Silverstein also explains in the piece, for performers fearful that their home state could prohibit interstate travel to a state that still allows abortion, that this would be unconstitutional.

“Following the Supreme Court’s decision, conservative politicians from various states have suggested that they would seek to criminalize and prosecute individuals who attempt to travel from a state that prohibits abortion to a state that allows abortion,” Silverstein explained. “The mere suggestion by these politicians is disturbing to say the least, but it is unlikely that any law of this type would survive a constitutional challenge.”

Silverstein Legal Announces ‘Crypto & NFTs’ Event Speakers

Join attorney Corey D. Silverstein for a pro/con discussion about the current state of crypto and NFTs in the adult space.

Cyberspace (August 1, 2022) – Join adult industry attorney Corey D. Silverstein, the driving force behind MyAdultAttorney.com and Adult.Law, and esteemed guests for the third event in Silverstein Legal’s Legal Impact series.

The “Crypto & NFTs in Adult: Wave of the Future?” live streamed event is happening on August 4th at 5 pm ET (2 pm PT) via Zoom. It will feature special guests Marie Bossette (Owner, Marie Bossette Entertainment LLC) and Cathy Beardsley (President and CEO, SegPay). The event is sponsored by Payze and will be hosted by sociologist Dr. Chauntelle Tibbals.

Cryptocurrencies and NFTs have exploded in the adult entertainment industry – however, has their acceptance and growth in the space stalled? Now is the time to have a serious discussion about consumer sentiment, content creators’ perspectives, legalities, regulation, and conventional processing. During this special live broadcast event, we will hear pro and con positions from leading players in the space.

“The number one question I am asked by merchants is when we are adding in Crypto,” Beardsley shared. “I’m looking forward to sharing how Segpay is approaching the crypto space, our plans for implementation, and all the gotchas we have had to pay attention to along the way!”

“There are many reasons I got into crypto/nft/blockchain – mainly it was to be able to provide more of a one-on-one experience with my fans old and new,” Bossette shared. “Another major reason for my involvement is to try and be an example to the upcoming stars and tell them they don’t need someone or some company to take a huge percentage of their earnings. We have the power, and it’s time to use it!”

“There has always been a tremendous need and desire in our industry for alternatives to customary payment processing. Cryptocurrencies and NFTs are still in their infancy and their uses are really just starting to get tapped into,” Silverstein said.

“Nobody knows more about payment processing than Cathy Beardsley, and Marie Bossette has successfully launched her own NFT product and blasted off as one of the top artist/entrepreneurs in our industry,” Silverstein continued. “I cannot wait for this special presentation!”

Legal Impact live webinar events will be hosted by sociologist Dr. Chauntelle Tibbals and are produced in conjunction with exclusive media sponsor XBIZ. All live events are free to attend for all members of the adult entertainment community and will be posted subsequently on MyAdultAttorney.com, Adult.law, and XBIZ.tv.
