A long, honest talk about a piece of the JAV industry is always good. We get to read insights and personal experiences about how something works. The last lengthy talk we covered was about VR.
In that last talk, Dongfeng, Koarataro (JAV Director), and VR Onii-san (VR Brother) talked about the VR side of Japanese porn. They’ve come to a conclusion that VR, on its own, is like its own industry. VR movies are different from the way the actresses are supposed to portray themselves, to the actor staying mostly still, and camera interactions. Even the equipment is different. There are rigs set up to capture these VR moments for someone wearing a headset.
The three men (mostly Dongfeng and Koara) talked about Kanna Misaki who is the “Queen of VR.” She spearheaded this new form of viewing Japanese porn and other actresses have followed suit through their respective studios.
Today, these men are continuing their talks about VR and its impact. Get comfortable and enjoy.

Continuation: VR’s Impact
Dongfeng: Recently, it’s not uncommon for VR titles to be at the top of the annual sales rankings.
Koara: Yes, there are some VR titles that have more than 30,000 favorites on Fanza.
Dongfeng: Is the number of VR users increasing?
Koara: Compared to the past, the number has increased considerably, but it’s still only about one out of every six AV users. Recently, the rate of increase has entered a stable phase, so I’d like to increase the number of users. I guess the hurdle of needing goggles is still high.
Dongfeng: There are many types of goggles, but is there a minimum level of equipment you would like people to use?
Koara: Many of the people who said they didn’t like adult VR the first time saw it using cardboard goggles sold for about 100 yen. That’s not good for anyone, so it’s better not to do that. Whether or not you are shocked when you see VR for the first time will completely change your perception of VR, and that’s a waste of time.
VR brother: There are goggles that cost tens of thousands of yen, but I recommend the Elecom goggles recommended by DMM for starters. That’s about 3,000 yen, and as long as the quality of the phone you use is good, it looks pretty good. Right now, you can also get 1000 yen worth of points that you can use at DMM or FANZA, so you can buy one adult VR movie with those points.
Dongfeng: I’ve been wanting to ask this for a while, but why are adult VR titles so inexpensive at around 1500 yen per title?
Koara: That’s because the early VR manufacturers sold their products at a discount (laughs). The only way to make money is to increase the number of VR users and sell more of them.

Koara: By the way, when was the first time you watched adult VR?
Dongfeng: I was at the Japan Adult Expo 2016. Kurea Hasumi was selling adult VR, and I was so excited to see her VR with me next to her. Before I knew it, I had bought the goggles and the work (laughs).

The Best Way to Watch VR
Koara: That’s possible. I think you’ve watched a lot of adult VR since you watched your first VR, but do you have your own way of enjoying it or any kind of rules?
Dongfeng: I always take a bath before watching adult VR. Even if it’s a VR, I feel like it’s rude not to take a bath before having sex with the actress.

Koara: Recently, a “tactile glove” that is compatible with VR was released. I had the chance to try it out, and it really gave me the feeling of actually touching things in VR through the glove. I thought, “This needs to be applied to adult VR as soon as possible.
Dongfeng: Some adult VR users enjoy using something like a Dutch wife (body pillow or sex doll) that is inflated with air. Hasn’t the level of filming technology improved a lot since the early days?
Koala: We’ve improved a lot. In the early days, we used two cameras, and we made the images by hand by splicing the images together to create a three-dimensional image. Dongfeng: 2016 is called the “First year of VR,” how many cameras for VR did you change in the five years since then?
Koara: I think I’ve changed at least 10 cameras. Companies in China and Silicon Valley are coming out with new cameras one after another like they’re competing with each other. The newer the technology, the better, so I’ve been trading in my current cameras for new ones.
Dongfeng: Is it true that VR equipment is advancing at such a fast pace?
Koara: It’s progressing very fast. In fact, developers from companies that make VR cameras sometimes come to the adult VR shooting sites to observe. They do research on what features would be useful and keep improving the cameras.
Dongfeng: I had no idea that the Japanese AV industry was instrumental in the development of VR around the world! Speaking of the evolution of cameras, I’d like to introduce you to Mayuki Ito’s VR title ([VR] (The New Standard) Practically Uncut! Koara: I give difficult instructions to the actors like, “When you’re in normal position, move your hips, but don’t move anything above your neck.

Final Words
The finale of these three men’s long 3-hour talk saw them going over some aspirations for the VR world. VR Brother mentioned a new piece of tech that has sites using a drone to take a 360-degree shot in the air of the scene below. It’s becoming more and more popular for studios to use when recording their VR scenes. Koara would love to produce a VR movie based off an erotic video game. Something of a VR orgy with princesses and a reward at the end.
VR Brother also talked about wanting to create adult VR movies that give them the freedom to move around.
“I want to create adult VR that allows more freedom of movement.
