IV (Interviewer): Hey, Setsu! Thank you for coming today. All of a sudden you look like Mirei Kiritani!
Setsu: That’s what people say to me sometimes. I’m glad.
IV: Today’s outfit and hair set also look great, like a Korean idol.
Setsu: I recently had my hair cut, and on the recommendation of my hairdresser, I tried a see-through bang. I don’t really have a particular look in mind, but…
IV: What are some of the most common first impressions you get from people you meet?
Setsu: I’m often told that I’m a bit of a natural, or that I don’t know what I’m supposed to be thinking.
IV: That’s what Iyona Fuji also said. But people who don’t know what they’re supposed to be thinking are actually…
Setsu: Yes, I just don’t think about anything (laughs). I don’t talk much in large groups, so that’s how people think of me. When I get to know people, I do things that seem sudden to others depending on my mood, so some of my close friends say that I pace myself too much.
IV: But I guess you’re the type of person who can show your true colors in front of people.
Setsu: Yes, I’m not shy or anything. I think being spontaneous is part of who I am, so I guess that’s what makes me slow-paced. (laughs)
IV: What is your latest slow-paced episode?
Setsu: The other day, I suddenly wanted to eat natto rice late at night, and I spent about… 2 hours thinking, “I want to eat natto rice.” I wasn’t trying to hold back, but I was too tired to move (laughs). In the end, two hours later, I went to the convenience store to buy some natto (fermented soybeans) and ate it, even though I thought it was too much trouble.
IV: That’s just my pace (laughs). Are you a person with flat emotions or…?
Setsu: That may be so. I’m often praised by people around me for not getting angry at all. I don’t have many bad days in my life, or rather, I tend to think, “Oh well.” I get tired if I think too much, so I have a high level of perspicacity (laughs).
An Independent Teen
IV: Do you spend most of your days off with your friends?
Setsu: When I was in high school, I used to go to Disney or go shopping with my friends. But I also like to be by myself. The other day, I suddenly wanted to see the ocean, so I went to Wakayama by myself (laughs).
IV: Alone! By train?
Setsu: After traveling by bullet train, I drove there. I like driving, so it was fun to drive along the coast.
IV: You are independent, aren’t you?
Setsu: I don’t know if that’s true. But I guess I’m the type of person who can do everything by myself. I’ve always liked to do things by myself. It’s my own pace (laughs).
IV: Setsu is a wintery name, but the ocean seems to suit you.
Setsu: I like the ocean. I’m a little embarrassed when I have to wear a bathing suit because of my big butt.
