Art’s World – Who Really Makes It?

With rising prices on everything we are all looking to save where we can, especially at the super market. For years, all of the major chains Publix, Winn- Dixie, Kroger, etc. have had their generic brands. This also holds true for Wal Mart and their Great Value brand and Costco and the Kirkland brand. Still today there is a large percentage of people who refuse to buy a generic brand. It has to be a name brand or they don’t buy it for fear it is lesser quality and not healthy to eat or use.

The truth is the majority, like about 80%, of generic brands like Great Value are made by the big name companies, so in essence you are actually buying the name brand. People assume because it’s cheaper it is lesser quality and not as good, which is not necessarily the case. The main reason it is cheaper is zero print or TV advertising costs with generic brands, meaning they can sell cheaper and still make a profit. Here are just a few so the next time you go into Wal Mart or whatever your favorite super market is remember who really produces it for them.

Great Value White and Whole Wheat Bread (made by Sara Lee)

Great Value milk and dairy products are actually made by Wal Mart themselves on their own huge, modern dairy farm in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Those are just a few, but there are many, many more in all types of products that are produced by the big brand names. Today at a time when money is tight and prices are on the rise, pick up the generic store brands and save some money.
